Bedroom Suck | LP | 14 €

Australian trio Martyr Privates haven't come here to reinvent rock and roll; they've come to show us why we fell in love with it in the first place. Buzzing through 9 tracks on their debut LP, the band forms a sonic attack that is forceful, yet also full of subtlety and beauty. Drawing from the same record collections that gave us Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Moon Duo, principal songwriter and guitarist Cameron Hawes (I Heart Hiroshima/Slug Guts) combines his garage rock pop smarts with his love of psych drone. Joined by Ashleigh Shipton (bass) and Sam Dixon (drums), the three create an invigorating brew of pure rock music. There is a joy in the crackle and haze of the blown-out guitar and vocal swirl that you will be hard pressed to find amongst their contemporaries. Crafted over late nights bleeding into early mornings in a former tire factory in Brisbane's North, the record was produced by Blank Realm's Luke Walsh and mastered by veteran sound artist Lawrence English. They proved to be the perfect pair to allow Martyr Privates the space required for the creation of their shimmering soundscapes, similar to their sonic predecessors, Spacemen 3. // "Sounds like one of those Texas groups that wore matching suits until someone turned them onto acid and they flipped right out." -Wire // "Insanely good psych rock... it's Stuvyhanging- from- bottom-lip swagger makes for repeated listening." - Mess & Noise //
